At The Mentor Academy, we know that mentorship is one of the most powerful and rewarding experiences for both the mentees and mentors. Great mentoring starts with great training which is why we created this course and give it away for free.
About us
The Mentor Academy is the not-for-profit brainchild of the trio who founded EdTech startup Vygo: Joel Di Trapani, Steven Hastie and Ben Hallett.
With a focus on championing all learners, Vygo is a revolutionary student support platform that makes seeking and giving help accessible to all, linking university and institution services with the people who need them.
The mutually beneficial outcomes of mentoring are extremely well documented and can last a lifetime. In addition to acting as role models, mentors aid the development of those less experienced than themselves by building rapport and offering learning support. Not only does this allow mentors to finetune their interpersonal skills – but they also get to absorb knowledge from the lived and learned experiences of their mentees.
With this in mind, Vygo founded The Mentor Academy. As well as bolstering the competence of existing Vygo mentors, the dynamic courses on offer are available to anyone interested in entering the wildly rewarding world of mentoring.
By providing free training to aspiring student mentors, we hope to boost their confidence, build their resilience and hone their communication and conflict management skills – helping people overcome intercultural barriers and evolve into impactful guides, active listeners and indelible support systems.
By providing this training for free to education institutions, we hope to inspire and enable educators to empower all their students to participate in their support ecosystem.
Every learner deserves the opportunity to be mentored and to mentor someone else.
Great mentorship isn’t a science, it’s a relationship. We seek to give practical guiding principles without over complicating it.
If we want mentors and mentees to show great engagement, we need to give them equally engaging tools, tech and training.
The Mentor Academy is a free online mentor training course for all learners. It was created by Vygo and a global Academic Council with industry professionals from the University of Minnesota, Coventry University Group, RMIT, UNSW, Middlesex University, Macquarie University and more. Whether it’s peer mentoring, industry mentoring, alumni mentoring, first-year student mentoring, international student mentoring or anything in between this course will help give your students the foundations of mentorship.
